Spotlight on the West Coast

PTTC's West Coast Region is unique in two ways. First, part of the region, Alaska, is separated by at least a couple thousand miles. Second, among the Regional Lead Organizations, the University of Southern California (USC) is unique in that it is the only private university serving as a Regional Lead Organization.

The Region's success rests upon both the energy and creativity of Dr. Iraj Ershaghi, RLO Director, and commitment and involvement of the Producer Advisory Group (PAG). Regional accomplishments of note include:

  • An active workshop program serves both the Bakersfield and Los Angeles Basin areas, plus there is a special outreach effort in Alaska. Importantly, the PAG is involved in shaping workshop content working through a Program Committee.
  • Trouble Shooters, who are experienced industry people working on behalf of the region, visit producers, working with them to help them understand their problems and suggest potential solutions.
  • Student and teacher training through COMET (California Oil Mentoring Entrepreneurial Training), supported by USC, PTTC and industry, not only educates tomorrow's potential workers about oil and gas, but interns work for industry, transferring technology.
  • Webcasts and video archives allow real-time interaction with a dispersed audience, industry access to information on their schedule, and lead PTTC forward in the Information Age.
