GRI Releases New CD-ROM on Downhole Gas/Water Separation

The Gas Research Institute (GRI) has released a CD-ROM which will cover four types of downhole gas/water separation (DGWS). Advertised as a consumer's guide to this technology, it should be a valuable reference for any company considering using DGWS for water management.

The CD-ROM reviews the four main types of pumping equipment used in DGWS, and includes case study data on the trials of the DGWS tools, as well as price comparisons for this type of water separation versus other types. The CD-ROM also discusses regulatory issues involved with this technology.

It is available through GRI's website for $149 (non-member price).

Produced Water Unit Being Tested at RMOTC

Aqua Technologies Incorporated (ATI) and the Rocky Mountain Oilfield Training Center (RMOTC) have installed a long-term demonstration unit to treat produced water. The test unit is located within the US Naval Petroleum Reserve No. 3's Biotreatment Facility outside Casper, Wyoming.

Field demonstrations will focus on the effectiveness of organic clay developed by ATI, which specializes in products, systems and services to remediate contaminated water. The clay absorbs organic compounds such as hydrocarbons and some heavy metals, thus providing an efficient means for extracting these contaminants from produced water.

This demonstration will allow operators to observe the removal of hydrocarbons from produced water while capturing them in a media that can be stored or easily transferred to a landfarm. Future testing will focus on ways to bio-regenerate the contaminated clay.

New Permian Basin Training Facility Opens

A new website was launched recently by the World Energy Council (WEC) as an information portal. To help introduce users to the website, WEC will be hosting Energy Resource2000, an inter-active, on-line conference and virtual exhibition.

The new WEC-sponsored website (www.energyresource2000.com) will be the site of the two week conference starting May 15, 2000. Participants will be able to discuss key issues on bulletin boards on the site as well as submitting questions to experts. It will remain open to anyone after the conference as a resource-with access to over 100 papers by industry professionals.

The agenda for the online conference will focus on how to deliver uninterrupted, affordable, commercial energy throughout the world with minimal environmental impact. This includes presentations related to technology, research and development, and the creation of global partnerships. PTTC Chair Leo Schrider was invited to present a paper on "E-Commerce for US Independent Oil & Gas Producers."

WEC, which is made up of approximately 100 energy producing and consuming countries, is hosting EnergyResource2000 with RMR Design Associates of London.
