ERig.net Open for BusinessA new online auction and clearinghouse – ERig.net – has opened for oilfield equipment and services. Located at www.erig.net, the website has over $45 million dollars in inventory and is forecast to double that by the end of this year’s first quarter. It hopes to provide oilfield professionals with the means to purchase via the Internet just about everything they need, including drill pipes, bits, casing, gas flow meters and compressors – with most inventory available in both new and refurbished form. There are no charges for purchasing items over the website, and the only fees incurred are for selling equipment. IBM and CMA are partners in the development of the online business. GRI and IGT Merge to Form New OrganizationThe Institute of Gas Technology (IGT) and GRI—formerly the Gas Research Institute—have merged to form a new organization, which has yet to be named. John F. Riordan, formerly chief executive of Midcon, has been selected as the president/CEO of the combined organizations. Since 1941, IGT has performed energy and environmental work in research, development, demonstration, and commercialization for customers in the private and public sectors, as well as providing information and educational services to the energy industry. Since 1976, GRI has managed a comprehensive technology development program spanning gas supply, transportation, distribution, and end use. The new organization will remain as a non-profit corporation with a membership made up of all existing members of GRI and IGT. A new board of directors will be named shortly that will be representative of all segments of the natural gas industry—including producers, pipelines, local distribution companies, integrated companies, municipals, consumers, and public interest segments. The merged organization will continue to provide a full range of technology solutions to energy industry stakeholders. Its programs will span the complete technology cycle, from laboratory research and field services to technology licensing and startup-company incubation. Current plans call for locating the headquarters of the combined business in the existing facilities of IGT, in Des Plaines, Ill., a Chicago suburb.
