Oil and Gas Associations Utilize the Web to Share Information With Members

Oil and gas associations have begun to focus on the web as a way to effectively communicate with their members. Along with opening new sites, associations have attempted to identify information that would be most useful to their audience and have spent time redesigning and updating old sites to include this information.

The Permian Basin Petroleum Association (PBPA) has just opened their website, www.permianbasin.org. Small to begin with, PBPA hopes to increase the services offered in the future. Currently, the site will offer the PBPA newsletter, In.Formation, a calendar of events, and a series of links to other sites of interest.

The Petroleum Equipment Suppliers Association (PESA) recently completed a major upgrade to its website, creating an online member directory which allows for searches of the association’s database by company name, service, or product. The database lists PESA member company executives, domestic and international service points, products, services and links to the company website. The database is located on the PESA website, www.pesa.org.

Realizing the need for technological growth, the California Independent Petroleum Association (CIPA) is currently revising their website, www.cipa.org. Eventually, it will offer members quicker and easier access to a wide variety of useful tools.

CIPA staff designed a survey to obtain a better understanding of member preferences and have seen many positive responses. Based on the survey results, CIPA will design the new website to give viewers access to legislative information affecting the petroleum industry, information on CIPA upcoming events, a membership directory, and online shopping for tools, services, and oil and gas properties.

The Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) website, www.tipro.org, has been selected as a “Links2Go Key Resource” in the oil and gas subject area. Each quarter, Links2Go samples millions of websites to determine the 50 sites within particular subject areas that are the most heavily cited by others.

For more information contact: PBPA, email pbpa@marshill.com; PESA, phone 713-932-0168; Dan Kramer, CIPA, email dpk@cipa.org, or phone 916-447-1185, TIPRO, phone 512-477-4452.

New Troubleshooting Program in California

The West Coast PTTC, the California Energy Commission, and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) have created a new troubleshooting program designed to assist small California oil and gas producers to reduce consumption of electricity and lower their field operational costs. Starting in September, a team of experts will, at no cost, visit up to 60 oil and gas fields in California and prepare recommendations for updating equipment and devising alternative approaches to cut electric power consumption, a large percentage of small producers’ operating costs. Operators participating in this troubleshooting program may also qualify for energy efficiency incentives administered by the investor-owned utilities to implement the recommendations made by the PTTC-EPRI team.

For more information, or to apply for the program, contact West Coast PTTC at their website, www.westcoastpttc.org, or phone 213-740-8076.

Gel Polymer Case Studies

Polymer Systems Inc. (PSI) in Hays, Kansas has posted gel polymer case studies on their website, www.polymergel.com. The case studies on the web present concise problems, solutions, and results covering five different field applications: (1) water control for gas wells, (2) water control for oil wells, (3) waterflood enhancement, (4) casing leaks, and (5) lost circulation control.

PSI assists oil operators with the design and implementation of polymer gel treatments from start to finish, beginning with screening of the wells and selection of the candidate wells likely to respond most favorably to the treatment process. PSI uses state-of-the- art equipment to blend, apply and monitor the treatments in the field.

For more information, contact Randy Prater, PSI, phone 785-625-3791, email randy@polymergel.com, or visit www.polymergel.com
