Society Engaging in Electronic Evolution

Can you imagine an SPE in which you can access customer services, professional training and continuing education, peer reviews and volunteer tasks - all from the same source? That vision is not very far away.

The advancement of electronic services and communications will rapidly affect the future of SPE membership and member services. To meet the Society’s mission of providing the means to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical information in this electronic evolution, the SPE Board of Directors has provided the guidance for a bold initiative, the Electronic SPE, also known as “eSPE.”

The eSPE initiative provides both the means and opportunity to re-architect SPE’s core function-providing members with access to technical knowledge. The vision of the eSPE includes:

  • Automation and extension of member services. This includes online customer service, online education, and streamlined volunteerism. All projects are aimed at providing members with work-flow tools and putting the SPE office within their reach.

  • New products and services. Specifically, the framework of eSPE will provide virtual communities, improved search capabilities, the aggregation of services, personalization, enhanced information and news.

  • The premier industry portal. By providing unequaled content, community, and commerce, eSPE will extend its reach. Some of these benefits include a collaborative community, the comparison of common upstream products, and volunteer research.

While embracing the electronic future, the SPE Board of Directors will continue to provide a full range of traditional services such as Journal of Petroleum Technology, conferences and exhibitions, and books to “unwired” members.

To learn more about the eSPE or other SPE member services, call Customer Service at 972-952-9393, send an email to newsletter@spe.org, or visit the SPE Web site at www.spe.org

eLibrary Now Offers Subscription Options

Subscriptions to the SPE eLibrary (formerly the Online Information Library) are now available.

The SPE eLibrary is an unequaled collection of knowledge, experience, and ideas from the upstream oil and gas industry that delivers technology directly to members. The eLibrary includes an archive of more than 30,000 technical papers from almost one-half century of research, study, and innovation.

With individual and corporate subscriptions, as well as singular paper downloads, eLibrary offers a variety of options to meet the unique technology needs of SPE members. Four subscription options are available including limited and unlimited corporation, limited individual, universities and colleges.

Individual subscriptions offer unlimited search capabilities, but downloads are limited to 25, 100, 200, or 300 papers per year. This purchase method is more convenient because it eliminates separate credit card transactions for each order. It also provides a low-cost option for professionals at smaller companies that do not choose unlimited download subscriptions.

Corporate subscriptions allow all of a company’s employees, located any where in the world, to download any SPE paper(s) through the company’s Intranet. Subscribers have unlimited search capabilities and there is no limit to the number of papers down-loaded for internal use.

As part of the new eSPE, the eLibrary offers members and nonmembers access to search, preview, and download papers from SPE’s vast collection of technical information. Users can search the archive by year, author, subject, source, reference number, organization, and key words.

To find out more about the subscriptions and pricing for the SPE eLibrary, call SPE Customer Service at 972-952-9393, email service@spe.org, or visit www.spe.org/oil
