Industry Highlight:  Mostar's Dual Telemetry MWD
Mostar Directional Technologies, Inc.’s (Mostar) patent-pending dual telemetry MWD technology allows one to switch between electromagnetic MWD and mud pulse technology without tripping out of the hole. Electromagnetic MWD is faster and more efficient, but higher resistance formations absorb the signal. With Mostar’s new tool, switching between EM and mud pulse can be completed in less than eight minutes without tripping. An example cited in an article in New Technology Magazine (Jan/Feb 2008; pp. 46-47) involved drilling to 1,900 meters with EM, switching to mud pulse through a 200-meter thick high resistance zone, then back to EM. Savings were estimated at $110,000.

DOE Highlight: RPSEA Using Forum Input to Shape 2009 R&D Programs
The objective of RPSEA forums is to facilitate dialogue on regional issues and pressing challenges in the industry, and to create an environment for RPSEA members to network. Among other things, input helps shape the program for the upcoming year. The list of forums continually evolves (check this link for the latest listing), but following are the currently planned forums:
  • April 7, Alaskan Unconventional Gas Resource, Anchorage, AK
  • April 23, CO2 EOR with Carbon Sequestration, Austin, TX
  • May 20 & 21 More Bytes & More Barrels Forum, Houston, TX

PTTC Highlight: Enjoy Technology Summit & Spring in Natchez —April 6 - 8
PTTC's Central/Eastern Gulf Region worked alongside organizers of the U.S. Oil & Gas Technology Summit 2008 (April 6 - 8 in Natchez, MS) to develop technology sessions that would have something for everyone—geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers, production engineers, landmen, the investment community, etc. Time is tight—but it's still not too late to participate. And there is always Natchez and its many wonders to enjoy.

Trivia Answer: Yes, its a trick question—the Driller at first was located inside the Expo Building. Other interesting facts about the Driller can be found under Tulsa landmarks. For even more interesting but probably unsubstantiated facts, check out this URL to visualize what other statue was considered.
