Technology—The Engine That Drives O&G Production

Industry Highlight: Evaluating Low Resistivity Pay
Baker Atlas's 3D ExplorerTM Induction Logging Service improves petrophysical evaluation of laminated, low-resistivity pay formations. Incorporation of data from 3D measurements improves hydrocarbon saturation analysis, which enables better quantification of producible zones. This helps operators keep from underestimating, or even missing entirely, zones that are economically producible.

DOE Highlight: On-Trend Waterflooding in the Spraberry
On-trend water injection, rather than off-trend as normally employed, showed promise in a 70-acre Spraberry pilot in West Texas, providing a fivefold increase in recovery. This work, performed by Pioneer Natural Resources working with Texas A&M in DOE's Class III program, led to a follow-on project within DOE's PUMP (Preferred Upstream Management Practices) program to better understand "why the success" when it seems counter-intuitive. Field location is the Germania Unit, about six miles from the original pilot. Texas A&M and Pioneer are working together in this $2 million project.

PTTC Highlight: Low Cost Software Fair
It's still not too late to take advantage of the "Online Low Cost Software Fair" that PTTC's Rocky Mountain Region has organized. Sandra Mark and her staff spent considerable time finding low cost O&G software options, then organized that information into 12 categories for users to quickly identify packages of potential interest. For several of those products, low cost workshops have also been scheduled in Golden. Consider attending on their merit alone, or combine with a ski trip to the Rockies.
