Industry Highlight: Technology Development Funding Through NYSERDA
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) provides funding support for technology development to strengthen the oil and gas industry in New York. Through
Program Opportunity Notice (PON) #807 , $300K of funding is being provided for three types of projects—resource characterization studies, prospect development projects, or end-use economic development. Participants must provide 50% or more cost share and proposals are due August 25. A separate gas storage-oriented PON #767 seeks two-stage proposals for increasing storage capacity for electric power generation. $200K will be spent in Phase 1 awards. Projects will be evaluated after Phase 1, then $800K of Phase 2 funding will be provided for selected projects. Proposals are due August 20.

DOE Highlight: IntellipipeTM Drill Pipe (built-in high speed telemetry) Performs Well in RMOTC Field Test In this test at RMOTC in Wyoming, more than 4,500 feet of pipe containing 121 high-speed joint connections was used to drill through rock formations under real-life loads and pressures. Two-way communication was established along the drill pipe while rotating, drilling and replacing pipe in the well. This technology enables data transmission rates more than 200,000 times faster than today’s common technology, which could revolutionize drilling.
