Technology—The Engine That Drives O&G Production

Industry Highlight:  OERB Approaching 5,000th Abandoned O&G Site Cleanup Milestone Since being formed in 1993, Oklahoma's Energy Resources Board (OERB) has worked hard in energy education and environmental cleanup. Mike Terry, Executive Director, recently announced that voluntary industry contributions through OERB will, in the very near future, have cleaned up 5,000 abandoned well/lease sites in Oklahoma. The education component is working equally well with 1/2 million students in Oklahoma having been exposed to O&G education and, through an aggressive public information campaign, a 78% improvement in public perception has been measured.

DOE Highlight: Microhole Technology Development Proposals Sought
With a focus on domestic wells shallower than 5,000 ft, DOE's National Energy Technology Laboratory is seeking proposals for (A) Field Demonstration of Existing Commercial Technology in different regions of the U.S. and (B) Technology Development in Four Topical Areas. These Topical Areas are: (1) Built For Purpose Microhole Coiled Tubing Rig, (2) Self-Contained "Zero Discharge" Drilling Mud System, (3) Microhole Coiled Tubing Bottom Hole Assemblies, and (4) Microhole Completion and Production Equipment. DOE funding approximates $6 million and about 15 awards are anticipated. Proposals are due in Jan 2004.

PTTC Highlight: Technologies That Impact The Bottom Line
In a joint effort, PTTC and IPAA's Crude Oil Policy Committee are delivering a hard-hitting tech session on Monday afternoon, Oct. 27 in New Orleans preceeding IPAA's annual meeting. Talks cover increasing gas well productivity, casing drilling, exploiting mature oil reservoirs, and E&P Safety. Come a little bit early and let PTTC express its appreciation to you.
