Technology—The Engine That Drives O&G Production

Industry Highlight: A Seismic Twist
Thousands gathered in Dallas at SEG's annual meeting last week. Some seismic-oriented links:

Since being formed in 1993, Oklahoma's Energy Resources Board (OERB) has worked hard in energy education and environmental cleanup. Mike Terry, Executive Director, recently announced that voluntary industry contributions through OERB will, in the very near future, have cleaned up 5,000 abandoned well/lease sites in Oklahoma. The education component is working equally well with 1/2 million students in Oklahoma having been exposed to O&G education and, through an aggressive public information campaign, a 78% improvement in public perception has been measured.

DOE Highlight: Oil Well Stability in Gulf of Mexico:
Pittsburgh, PA - In a project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), researchers are conducting important geologic tests to determine how oil wells in the oceans can be stabilized while drilling in slabs of salt thousands of feet thick. Initial results are promising.

PTTC Highlight: Technologies for Mature Oil and Gas Wells, Casing Drilling
In a joint IPAA/PTTC session preceding IPAA's recent annual meeting in New Orleans, speakers presented data showing how different technologies are recovering more oil and gas from mature US reservoirs, or in the case of casing drilling, allowing previously uneconomical wells to be drilled in certain areas where conventional drilling operations are trouble prone.
