EM Locator
www.EPmag.com
(June 2011) | The EM Locator is a battery-operated tool that
sends electric impulses into the ground to create an
electromagnetic (EM) wavelet. The return signals are picked
up by a sensor to indicate hydrocarbon presence. The
prototype tool developed by Franz Van de Kop --- an
electronics engineer working in the oil and gas industry ---
can be hand carried. Tests indicate that the tool can
identify oil, gas, brine, freshwater and underground
caves. Van de Kops is looking for a company to manufacture
and market his new technology.

Bakken Play - History and Future
| The Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists is sponsoring
a symposium on September 22 in Denver on the Bakken-Three
Forks play. The focus of the symposium will be reservoir
development of the Bakken-Three Forks, including studies on
geology, stratigraphy and geochemistry. The Keynote speaker
will be Julie LeFever of the North Dakota Geological Survey,
speaking on "Historical Perspectives on Bakken/Three Forks
Play Types and Stratigraphy". Other speakers will include
Dan Jarvie (Worldwide Geochemistry), Steve Sonnenberg
(Colorado School of Mines), Dan Kohlruss (Saskatchewan
Geological Survey), Eryn Bergin (QEP Resources) and Rich
Bottjer (Cirque Resources).

Hydraulic
Fracturing Chemistry | The Ground Water Protection
Council and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission
have opened a new on-line registry to provide data of the
latest types and volumes of chemicals used for hydro
fracing. Federal legislation, the "FRAC Act", would put the
EPA in the position to initiate a federal reporting
requirement for every state permitted well, and individual
states are also initiating regulations. The fracfocus
website will keep operators up to date on legislative
changes and response strategies. Two webinars will be
available on August 11 and 12 to demonstrate the website and
to discuss how the new State and Federal regulations will
impact drilling and completion technologies in shale gas
plays. Reserve your Webinar seat now:
August 11 or
August 12.

New Lubricants
| ExxonMobil and Honeywell have teamed up to market a new
comprehensive suite of lubricants. The lube and advanced
fuels hydroprocessing materials are designed for improved
engineering capabilities for use in refineries. The
strategic alliance of ExxonMobil and Honeywell will market
the EMRE's hydroprocessing technology for base oils used in
motors to produce high-quality feedstocks, yielding quality
lubricants. The products are ultra-low sulfur diesel and
cetane with low-temperature flow properties. The alliance
will license technologies for engineering packages for
hydrocracking and other hydroprocessing solutions.
